POSITIVE: FILM REVIEW

“Positive,” written and directed by Kate Lyn Whitaker, packs a lot of emotionality in its short but powerful runtime. The film jumps right into a life-changing event as the main character, Amy, closely observes her pregnancy test. What follows next is a brief conversation between her and her partner, and the subtext between each line cues the audience to feel as much of an emotional roller-coaster as Amy does.

The script did an excellent job of leaving the audience to read between the lines. This film is definitely worth multiple viewings to be able to catch what is literally being said versus what is actually being said. Its excellent use of dramatic irony was magnified by the two performers, Kate Lyn Whitaker and Dustin Freeman, who sounded very natural in their external dialogue, while still conveying their hidden emotions.

“Positive” truly encapsulates the phrase “less is more.”
