IT IS CLEAN - FILM REVIEW
First time film director Paul Cartwright delivers an interesting take on the horror genre with his film “It Is Clean.” The title itself is rather fitting and captures the theme of the film perfectly; with the word “clean” implying something positive, but immediately leaving the viewer with a sense of unease as the film begins.
“It Is Clean” tells the story of an ominous creature who–through a human host–is set out to cleanse the world. What makes this a unique horror film (and what fascinated me most) was the setting. While most horror films rely on dark moody lighting to set the tone, this story took place in a brightly lit suburban home. This left the horrors to strictly come from the editing, sound design, and strong performances from the actors. The fact that the film still brings a sense of eeriness despite its unconventional lighting was a true testament to the talents on and off the screen.
“It Is Clean” is a well-crafted film that challenges the philosophical issues of morality and leaves you wanting to see more!
