TWO FATHERS: INTERVIEW WITH MUSICIAN TIMID TURMOIL
ZFA had the opportunity to interview “Two Fathers” musician Timid Turmoil about how he got started in music, his influences, and the message he hopes the song will send to viewers. The emotionally driven Two Fathers music video won Best Production Design and Best Supporting Actress (Joni Kingston) in the September edition of ZFA.
ZFA: What got you started in the music industry?
Timid Turmoil: As a kid, my brother was gifted at guitar. He taught me a few riffs, so I asked for my own. I started writing music as soon as I got my guitar for Christmas. Since then, I picked up a few more instruments and equipment, became a multi instrumentalist, and have been performing & producing my own albums for the last 20 years or so. My newest album, “I,” is my first venture into hip hop & working with other producers, but has actually been in the making for years. Dabbling in hip hop production behind the scenes and honing this new voice, I finally got to a point where I knew people needed to hear it.
ZFA: Who/what was your biggest influence?
Timid Turmoil: Great storytelling, expressive and unique sounds, and the thrill of creating. The list of individuals who inspire me is constantly evolving so it seems impossible to nail it down to a name, band, or genre. IF I HAD TO CHOOSE, here is a short list, in no particular order : Queens of the Stone Age, Immortal Technique, Kendrick Lamar, Quentin Tarantino, Dead Kennedys, Bad Religion, Breaking Bad, and MF DOOM.
ZFA: Where did you film the music video? How long did it take?
Timid Turmoil: Ogden, UT. Filmed it in 5 hours.
ZFA: What was your biggest challenge?
Timid Turmoil: Affording the incredible talent.
ZFA: What was the most memorable moment on set?
Timid Turmoil: Brittney and Joni really committed to their fight scene! They were yelling so loud that I was concerned about worrying my neighbors, who I forgot to warn! Brittney was pushed into the door and had a bruise on her arm for a few days. She started it though!
ZFA: What would you like your message to accomplish?
Timid Turmoil: For someone to truly take in the weight of their choices.
ZFA: Where can we find you? How can we follow your work?
