FILM REVIEW: “FISH OUT OF WATER”

Director Talitha Hanks brings a heartwarming comedy about a group of volunteer firefighters and their hysterical experience of putting together their very first thematic calendar. “Fish Out of Water” features a hilarious ensemble cast who you can tell really had fun on and off the screen.

This film brings together a riotous array of characters such as Dave Martinez’s portrayal of Justin and Paul Cartwright’s portrayal of Victor Von Victor. Every actor in this cast gave a distinct and lively performance to their respective characters. Some moments of the film felt improvised, as if the director entrusted the talent to truly bring the chemistry of the firefighting team together. It is apparent that Talitha Hanks gave enough direction to her cast, while also allowing room for them to pull the humor together. Hanks handles this balance with such grace.

Above all the comedy, this film stands as a firm affirmation for males being confident in their own body with its overarching message. When all is said and done, this short film leaves you with a warm feeling and a newfound appreciation of the super men and women of firefighting.
