HAUNTS GONE WRONG: INTERVIEW WITH BUNDY MANOR CREATOR AND DIRECTOR ALEX WATSON

Bundy Manor, the new horror movie about a haunt that goes to far, won the following awards in the September edition of Zepstone Film Awards: Best Actor (Walter Gene Mecham), Best Horror Film, Best Director (Alex Watson), Best FX Makeup (Caleen Baldwin), Best Score, and Best Grip (Autumn Killpack-Havey & Conner Hill).

The Zepstone Film Awards team had the opportunity to interview award-winning director Alex Watson about his background, the making of Bundy Manor, and more.

ZFA: What got you started in this industry?

Alex: When my parents got divorced, my grandpa gave me his old camera as he upgraded. I would babysit my brother while my mom worked graveyard shifts, and we would make little movies.

ZFA: Who/what was your biggest influence?

Alex: Career wise, Spielberg. But personally my uncle took me to my first Sundance when I was 12. He was always asking what I’d be filming next.

ZFA: Where did you film Bundy Manor? How long did it take?

Alex: Most of it was filmed in Cedar City, Utah. Some of it was in SLC, and some parts in Los Angeles. In total, to shoot it took about 3-4 weeks.

ZFA: What was your biggest challenge?

Alex: During the middle of the production we had to stop because of COVID. Getting everyone back was a challenge and we did it!

ZFA: What was the most memorable moment on set?

Alex: Honestly there was a moment on set where everything was working like a well-oiled machine. Everyone was respecting each other, and we were just having the best time. It then ended with a GREAT scene where Eric walks into the house after going through the haunt. And it was so intense.

ZFA: What would you like your message to accomplish?

Alex: Mental Health and toxic masculinity are sort of big themes during our film. I hope it opens up conversations about that. It also deals with these extreme haunted houses, and I really think more attention needs to be put on them because it’s not for everyone and it can give people PTSD.

ZFA: Where can we find you? How can we follow your work?

Alex: If anyone wants to help us make the next movie, you can reach us at clyde@j-watproductions.com and you can visit our website bundymanormovie.com.
